Step 1 — Find Your Exness MT5 Login Details
Before opening MT5, you need three pieces of information from your Exness Personal Area. These are not the same as your Exness email and password:
- Log into your Exness Personal Area at exness.com
- Under "My Accounts," find the trading account you want to connect — it will show as "MT5 Real" or "MT5 Demo"
- Click the three-dot menu (⋮) next to the account and select "Account Info"
- Write down three things:
- Account number — a 7-8 digit number (e.g. 84729541)
- Server — will look like "Exness-Real8" or "Exness-Real14" or similar
- MT5 Password — this is separate from your Personal Area login. If you have never set it, click "Change Password" to create one now.
Step 2 — Connect Exness to MT5 on PC (Windows)
- Open MetaTrader 5 on your computer. If you have not installed it yet, download it from the Exness website to get the version pre-configured for Exness servers.
- In the top menu, click File → Login to Trade Account
- In the login window that appears:
- Login: Enter your Exness account number (e.g. 84729541)
- Password: Enter your MT5 trading password
- Server: Start typing "Exness" in the server box — a dropdown will appear with all available Exness servers. Select the one that matches your account info (e.g. Exness-Real8)
- Tick "Save password" if you want MT5 to remember your credentials
- Click Login
- If the connection is successful, the bottom right of MT5 will show a green connection indicator and your account balance will appear in the top right

How to Link Exness to MT5 — Demo Account
The process for connecting a demo account is identical to a real account. In your Exness Personal Area, demo accounts are listed alongside real accounts — they will be labelled "MT5 Demo." Get the account number, server, and password from the demo account's info section and follow the same steps above.
Demo accounts typically use a server named something like "Exness-Trial" or "Exness-Demo" — make sure you select the demo server, not a real server, or the login will fail.
Exness MT5 Server List — Which Server to Choose
Exness operates multiple servers to distribute trader load. Your account is assigned to a specific server when you open it. You cannot choose which server — it is assigned automatically. The server name is visible in your Personal Area under the account info. Common Exness server names include:
- Exness-Real (various numbers: Real1 through Real40+)
- Exness-Trial (for demo accounts)
- Exness-Real-MT5 (some account types)
If you cannot find your server in the MT5 server search, type the first few characters of the server name rather than just "Exness" — for example type "Exness-Real8" directly if that is your assigned server.
MT5 Login Failing — Troubleshooting
If your login attempt shows "Invalid account" or "Authorization failed," work through this checklist:
- Wrong password type: Are you using the MT5 trading password, not your Personal Area password? They are different. Reset the MT5 password from your Personal Area if needed.
- Wrong server: Double-check the exact server name in your Personal Area. Even one character difference (e.g. Real8 vs Real18) will cause a login failure.
- Account number vs login: The MT5 login field requires your numeric account number (7–8 digits), not your email address.
- Account inactive: If your account has been dormant for an extended period, it may have been temporarily deactivated. Log into your Personal Area to reactivate it.
- Internet connection: MT5 requires an active internet connection to authenticate. Check your connection before troubleshooting further.
What is the Difference Between Exness Web Terminal and MT5?
Both are Exness trading platforms but they serve different use cases. The Exness web terminal runs in your browser with no download required — useful for quick trades on any device. MT5 is a desktop/mobile application with more charting tools, indicator support, and the ability to run automated trading bots (Expert Advisors). Most serious Ugandan traders use MT5 for their primary trading and keep the web terminal as a backup.

Open Exness Account →Log into your Exness Personal Area at exness.com. Under "My Accounts," click the three-dot menu next to your trading account and select "Account Info." The server name is listed there — it will look like "Exness-Real8" or "Exness-Real14" or similar. Write it down exactly and enter it in MT5's server field when logging in.
Yes. MT5 supports multiple accounts simultaneously. In the MT5 Navigator panel (left side), right-click on "Accounts" and select "Login to Trade Account." Each account you connect will appear in the Navigator and you can switch between them. This is useful if you have both a demo and a real account, or multiple real accounts with different settings.
"No connection" means MT5 cannot reach the Exness server — this is usually an internet issue on your end rather than a problem with Exness. Check your internet connection first. If your connection is fine, check the bottom right of MT5 for the specific error code. "Connection timed out" suggests a firewall or VPN is blocking MT5. If you are using a VPN, try turning it off and reconnecting. If the issue persists, check Exness's status page or contact their support.
Your Exness MT5 password is a separate password from your Personal Area login. It is set when you create a trading account, or you can change it anytime from your Personal Area under the account settings. If you have forgotten it, log into your Personal Area, find the account, and use the "Change Password" option to set a new one. The new password takes effect immediately in MT5.
