What is the Exness Web Terminal? It is a browser-based version of MetaTrader 5 (MT5), built directly into your Exness Personal Area. You open it from a web browser — Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari — and trade without installing any software. It works on any computer, including shared office computers and laptops where you can't install programmes.

How to Access the Exness Web Terminal

  1. Log into your Exness Personal Area at exness.com
Enter your email and password. If you haven't registered yet, see our Exness Uganda guide — registration takes about 5 minutes.
  2. Go to "My Accounts"
In the Personal Area, find the trading account you want to use. You'll see a list of your accounts (Standard, Pro, etc.) with their balances and account numbers.
  3. Click the three-dot menu next to your account → "Trade"
A dropdown appears with your trading options. Select "Trade in browser" or "Web Terminal." Exness opens a new browser tab with the full MT5 web terminal loaded.
  4. The terminal opens automatically logged in
You don't need to enter your MT5 server or account number — Exness connects automatically using your Personal Area session. Your account balance, open positions, and trade history are all visible immediately.

When to Use the Web Terminal vs the MT5 Desktop App

The right choice depends on how you trade and what equipment you have:

Use the Web Terminal when:

  • You are on a shared computer, work laptop, or any machine where you cannot install software
  • You want to check and manage open positions quickly without opening the full MT5 application
  • You are travelling and using a hotel or café computer
  • You trade manually and don't use automated strategies or custom indicators
  • You're a beginner who finds the full MT5 interface overwhelming — the web terminal is cleaner and simpler

Use the MT5 Desktop App when:

  • You run Expert Advisors (EAs) or automated trading bots
  • You use custom-coded indicators not available in the standard library
  • You trade on multiple screens simultaneously
  • You need the full charting library and analysis tools
  • You want push notification alerts sent to your phone

For most Ugandan traders who trade gold (XAU/USD) and major forex pairs manually, the web terminal is fully sufficient. The MT5 desktop app becomes necessary only when you start using automation. See our Exness MT5 download guide if you need the desktop version.

How to Find Instruments in the Web Terminal

The web terminal can initially feel sparse because not all instruments are displayed by default. Here is how to add what you need:

  1. In the web terminal, find the Quotes/Watchlist panel on the left side
  2. Click the "+" icon at the top of the watchlist
  3. Search for the instrument you want — for example type "XAU" for gold, "EUR" for EURUSD, or "US30" for the Dow Jones index
  4. Click the instrument to add it to your watchlist
  5. Double-click any instrument in your watchlist to open a chart

Gold (XAU/USD) is consistently the most-traded instrument among Ugandan Exness users. If it's not in your default watchlist, search "XAUUSD" in the instrument search. See our gold trading guide for strategy and timing tips.

How to Place a Trade in the Web Terminal

  1. Open the chart for the instrument you want to trade
  2. Click the "New Order" button (or press F9)
  3. Set your Volume (lot size) — start with 0.01 for a micro lot
  4. Set your Stop Loss — the price at which your trade closes automatically if it goes against you
  5. Set your Take Profit — the price at which your trade closes and locks in your profit
  6. Click Buy (if you think price will rise) or Sell (if you think price will fall)
  7. Your trade appears in the Trade tab at the bottom of the screen
Always set a Stop Loss before entering any trade. The Exness web terminal allows you to trade without one, but this is dangerous. Gold can move 200–500 pips in minutes during news events. A trade with no stop loss during an unexpected announcement can wipe a small account entirely. Set the stop loss before you click Buy or Sell — not after.

Exness Web Terminal Login Issues — Common Fixes

Try a different browser. Chrome works most reliably. Clear your browser cache (Ctrl+Shift+Delete in Chrome) and try again. If you're using a VPN, try disconnecting it — some VPNs block the WebSocket connection the terminal uses. Also ensure JavaScript is enabled in your browser settings.

In your Exness Personal Area, go to My Accounts. Find your trading account. Click the three vertical dots (⋮) to the right of the account. Select "Trade in browser." If you don't see this option, make sure your account has been verified (KYC completed) — unverified accounts have limited access.

The web terminal and MT5 desktop show positions for the same account — they should match exactly. If they don't, try refreshing the web terminal page. If there's still a discrepancy, log out of the Personal Area completely and log back in. Contact Exness support if positions are genuinely missing.

Yes — the web terminal works in a mobile browser (Chrome for Android, Safari for iPhone), but it is cramped on small screens. For phone trading, the Exness Trading App is much better designed. Download it from the Exness website or from Google Play/App Store directly. The Personal Area and Trading App are separate from the web terminal.

No. The web terminal is a live browser connection — if your browser closes or goes to sleep, it disconnects. Your open positions remain on the server and are still managed by your Stop Loss and Take Profit orders, but you won't be able to monitor or modify them until you reconnect. For trades you want to leave running unattended, the MT5 desktop app is more reliable.
