How to Use This Calculator

The profit/loss calculator tells you exactly how much money you make or lose on a forex or gold trade, in both US dollars and Ugandan shillings. Enter the instrument you're trading (gold, EURUSD, etc.), whether you're buying or selling, your lot size, and your entry and exit prices. The calculator shows your result instantly.

What is a Pip?

A pip is the smallest standardised price movement for a given currency pair or instrument. For most forex pairs like EURUSD, one pip is a 0.0001 change in price. For gold (XAU/USD), one pip is a $0.01 change. For USD/JPY, one pip is a 0.01 change. Understanding pips is essential because all forex profits and losses are measured in pips multiplied by pip value.

Position Size and Risk Management

The position size calculator answers the most important question in trading: how many lots should I trade? The answer depends on three things — your account balance, how much of it you're willing to risk on this trade, and where you'll place your stop loss. The standard rule is to risk no more than 1–2% of your account per trade. At 1% risk on a $500 Exness account, your maximum loss per trade is $5 — regardless of what the market does.

Calculate your profit in USD first using the pip value formula, then multiply by the current USD/UGX exchange rate. This calculator does it automatically — enter the current rate in the "USD to UGX rate" field at the top. The rate changes daily, so update it before each trading session. At approximately UGX 3,700 per $1, a $100 profit equals UGX 370,000.

On Exness, the pip value for gold (XAU/USD) is $1.00 per pip per standard lot (1.0 lot). For a 0.1 mini-lot, each pip is worth $0.10. For a 0.01 micro-lot, each pip is worth $0.01. Gold's pip size is 0.01 — meaning a price move from 2400.00 to 2400.01 is one pip. A $10 move in gold price equals 1,000 pips.

With a $100 account at 1% risk per trade ($1 risk), and a 20-pip stop loss on gold: recommended lot size = $1 ÷ (20 × $1) = 0.05 lots. Use the position size tab above and enter your balance, risk percentage, and stop loss to get your exact recommended lot size. The calculator does the formula automatically.
